Amazing Japan - Tokyo to Hiroshima

I had an incredible trip to Japan, and it was full of amazing things — from the bustling streets of Tokyo to the peaceful beauty of Hiroshima, with some unforgettable stops in between.

​Tokyo: A Mix of Old and New
Tokyo completely exceeded my expectations! One of my favorite experiences was TeamLab Planets, an immersive digital art museum where you actually walk through incredible light and sound installations. It truly felt like stepping into another world.
I also enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of Meiji Shrine, a beautiful sanctuary surrounded by trees in the heart of the city. The Imperial Palace and its lovely gardens offered a fascinating glimpse into Japan's history.
Ginza impressed me with its luxury boutiques, elegant department stores, and stylish cafés. It was the perfect place to experience Tokyo's sophisticated side.
I also explored Asakusa, home to the historic Senso-ji Temple and the lively Nakamise Shopping Arcade, where I found traditional snacks and unique souvenirs. A visit to the Tokyo National Museum rounded out the day with an impressive collection of Japanese art and history.
Hakone & Mt. Fuji: Nature at Its Best
Just outside Tokyo, Hakone showcased Japan's incredible natural beauty. Seeing Mt. Fuji up close was unforgettable—it is even more spectacular in person. I visited Owakudani Crater, where volcanic steam rises from the earth, and even sampled the area's famous black eggs.
A cruise on Lake Ashi with Mt. Fuji in the background was one of the highlights of the trip.
Matsumoto & Takayama: Castles and Historic Towns
Matsumoto Castle was breathtaking. Its striking black exterior set against the surrounding mountains made it one of the most memorable castles I've ever visited.
In Takayama, I wandered through the morning market along the river, a tradition that has continued for more than 600 years. The historic Takayama Jinya offered a fascinating look at Japan's past, while the Matsuri Yatai Kaikan displayed beautifully handcrafted festival floats.
Shirakawa-go & Kanazawa: Timeless Beauty
Shirakawa-go looked like something from a storybook, with its traditional thatched-roof farmhouses nestled among the mountains.
Kanazawa was equally charming. I enjoyed strolling through the Higashi Chaya District, one of Japan's best-preserved geisha districts, and visiting the beautiful Kenroku-en Garden, considered one of the country's finest landscape gardens. Omicho Market was a lively place to experience local seafood and everyday life.
Kyoto: Where Tradition Comes Alive
Kyoto was filled with unforgettable landmarks. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha was an experience I'll never forget.
The Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji) shimmered beautifully beside its reflecting pond, while Nijo Castle offered another fascinating look into Japan's rich history. Kyoto Tower provided panoramic views that perfectly showcased the blend of ancient temples and modern city life.
Hiroshima & Miyajima: Reflection and Inspiration
The journey aboard Japan's famous bullet train to Hiroshima was smooth and efficient. Visiting Peace Memorial Park, the Atomic Bomb Dome, and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was deeply moving and provided an important reminder of the resilience of the Japanese people and the importance of peace.
From there, I took a ferry to Miyajima Island, where the iconic floating torii gate appeared to rise from the water at high tide. It was a peaceful and unforgettable ending to the journey.
